~ The Dream ~
I had a dream last night
we were laughing, having fun
a glimpse of what we could have had
if we had just begun
I could hear your laughter
which in truth, I hadn’t heard before
for that one day wasn’t near enough
for us truly to explore
perhaps you thought I’d be different
or I was too awkward and unsure
that what I thought we had, on paper,
was a realness that would endure
now the only realness I possess
are the ways your absence has amassed
acute silence in every corner
the first time I saw you was the last
when the levee breaks
and profound sadness spills
there is nothing I understand
the distant laughter stills
I try to hold onto your smile
but you left me nothing to redeem
it was a fleeting moment
and it was just a dream.

Expectations cannot be throttled,
short of shutting them down.
Once put on the flow of a pipeline,
they will only run aground.

I try so hard not to expect anything. It’s only lead to disappointment.

So much pain – more of a nightmare than a dream

The dream is always fleeting. Perhaps what makes them nightmares is that they are so sweet and fleeting?
