My dearest Moon,

How do I write
to my own eyes and heart?
for that is what I believe you to be

ever silent but oh, so magical
that you understand my wishes
for you to watch over him
   to be his guiding light
   a source of wonderment
   inspiration or, simply,
   a peaceful view
and I know that it will be so

you are a vessel of love
you see, you carry, and you dispense
always discreet in your brilliance
for the true orientation matters not
just that he sees the beauty in the delivery

oh, Moon, you magnificent shape-shifter
  a crescent – when we need someplace to hang our hopes
  and full – when you are near bursting with love to share
you always know exactly what we need

you never write back to me, of course
but I take solace in knowing
that you are always there for him
a luminous, steady beacon in his life
for that, you have my undying gratitude
and I thank you, more than words can express
but I believe you know that, too.
