Have you ever been touched by a dragonfly?

She came to me in a dream
poised iridescence
sunbathing on a garden bush

I gently touched a nearby leaf
and she fluttered onto my finger

in wonderment, I held her before my face
we studied each other for a moment
before she flew about and settled in my hair

carefully, so as not to disturb her,
I walked to a piece of reflective glass
and saw that she had perched herself, just so
as though I wore a beautiful pink flower

I marveled at her in awe
and then she whispered in my ear

about you

the softest words swirled about us
as we spoke in hushed tones
amid a kaleidoscope of emotions
we rode the ripples of my heart
as it traveled through time

she touched on the pain, with tenderness
paused on hope, with optimism 
and flew us through the heady scent of bliss
before circling back to the garden
she cautioned me, not to dwell on the past

I glanced to the house beyond the garden
knowing you were inside
and, as dreams are wont to do,
I was instantly transported
from one place to another
from the known to the unknown

I saw you in a crowded room
and worked my way through from behind
I placed my hand upon your back

and woke up.
