A picture is worth a thousand words. Or perhaps, a picture begs a thousand questions. Seems quite a few pictures from the 80’s do that. And most of those typically begin with “WTF?”
“WTF is she wearing?”
“WTF was I wearing?”
“WTF did she block out of the bottom corner of that picture?” -.-
(Okay maybe the “WTF” part is just me; if I’d been keeping a swear jar since the 80s’s, I’d have been fabulously wealthy by now).
So I remember exactly where I was when this picture was taken (a friend’s house in Redondo Beach, shortly after my BFF and I moved to SoCal on a complete and utter whim with nothing more than a carload of clothes, a couple hundred bucks, two dogs, the boardgame Sorry and my dad’s Chevron credit card). I didn’t have a care in the world back then (except maybe once my dad received the bill for the aforementioned credit card). I even remember my favorite song at that time, “Lean on Me” by Club Nouveau. And I remember us riding in our friend’s convertible with the top down, and this song came on and I was like “omg I love this song!” (as I’m wont to do when pretty much any song from the 80s comes on).
Sadly, (sadly?) I don’t have any of those clothes from the picture anymore (I did love those boots, though). But I do have a box of some clothes and belts I saved, and I did keep a lot of 80’s me – a fierce bond to 80’s music, my vocabulary (I say ‘like,’ ‘totally,’ ‘oh my God,’ ‘dude’ and ‘awesome’ like, way too much), that slightly-dazed look in my eyes, my you’re-not-the-boss-of-me attitude, my independence, and my secret longing for the revival of banana clips (I’ve been told they can occasionally be found in the Dollar Store and if I ever come across any, I will totally buy and wear them).
*Shrugs*
You can take the girl out of the 80’s, but you can’t take the 80’s out of the girl.

LOVE IT!! I am currently addicted to an essential 80s playlist on Apple Music. Nothing like driving in the Jeep with the top down blasting some Ozzy or Def Leppard. Just sayin’. Also lol’ed at your “begs a thousand questions’!!

I have several 80s playlists and yes – they are perfect for driving music (lots of loud sing-alongs that way – lol!)

You taught me well. I still say “awesome” often, and everyone is “Dude” addressed.
Gee, I wonder what you blocked out of that image?

The 80’s were when I kind of checked out musically. Making rent was more important. My best friend moved to Newport Beach and I stayed back here. Kind of wish I’d followed him.

I remember when ‘cool’ went out and ‘far out’ came in. I just wish I could still fit in my ’80’s clothes(one pair of jeans worn daily until they disappeared in the washer, lol.)

Yeah pretty much the only 80s things I can fit in into are my earrings and leg warmers lol!
